Three new roles added to the Blue Cabin team

We’re very happy to welcome two new Associates to the Blue Cabin team, and to congratulate another of our team on taking up the brand new role of Operations Manager.

Alex Sayers and James Anderson have both joined Blue Cabin as Associates and will project manage some of our programmes with virtual schools, local authorities and adoption agencies.

And Gloria Raine has started her new role as Operations Manager, leading administrative functions across the charity and making sure that our processes are efficient and based on trauma-informed principles of care.

Find out a bit more about Alex, James and Gloria and their new roles here:

Alex Sayers, Blue Cabin Associate

Alex: “I really believe in the power of the arts to support self-expression and to build a capacity for reflection and understanding. All the work I do is about championing creativity, especially the creativity of young people.

“In 2016, I co-founded a youth arts charity called Element, which runs creative arts projects with care-leavers as well as students at risk of exclusion and asylum-seeking young people.

“Last year, I made the move to the North East, to complete my training as an art therapist, and was very happy to reconnect with Blue Cabin, having met Jenny, the Director, through my work with Element.

“The way Blue Cabin collaborates with local authorities and children’s services as well as artists and the creative sector is very exciting. Having a deep knowledge of all those spaces, and bringing them together, is pretty special. Blue Cabin’s trauma-informed approach to design and delivery feels really thoughtful – it’s not one-size-fits-all.”

James Anderson, Blue Cabin Associate

James: “I’ve worked in children’s services for about 20 years and most of that time has been in local government, working with care-experienced children and young people. Now, I’m vice chair of a regional adoption panel, an independent panel member for a fostering panel and an independent investigator for children’s services complaints – alongside my new role with Blue Cabin!

“Through my previous work I’ve seen that creative opportunities for children in care are really powerful and something that more people should get to experience.

“I’ve followed Blue Cabin’s journey via social media for the last few years so I know they offer something quite unique and I’m looking forward to being a part of that – giving children and young people access to wonderful opportunities and amplifying their voices.

“I’m an adoptive parent so it’s something I really care about personally as well as professionally and I’m excited to help give care-experienced children and young people a greater voice.”

Gloria Raine, Blue Cabin Operations Manager

Gloria: “I’ve been with Blue Cabin since late 2020, previously as programme coordinator.

“Before that I worked at Sage Gateshead, which is now The Glasshouse, in various project coordinator roles for some of the organisation’s education and outreach programmes.

“I always enjoy working somewhere where there’s worth in what we’re doing and that’s what attracted me to Blue Cabin.
“As part of my new role I’ll have more involvement in working with our volunteers and I’ll be deputy designated safeguarding officer and trauma-informed champion for the charity. I’m looking forward to training more in relation to those areas.
“I already know that this is such a nice environment and team to work with, because we care about each other and the people we work with and there’s an honesty in the way everything is done here.”
