James Anderson


James is an experienced practitioner and local authority manager, having worked for over 20 years’ in local government, currently as a manager in a large early help service. James’ background is in family support, education safeguarding, children’s rights, participation, and advocacy with much of this time spent working with cared for children and those in contact with children’s social care services.

James previously worked for a local authority fostering and adoption service, leading on projects to improve outcomes for cared for children. In addition to his role with Blue Cabin, he works Freelance as an Independent Person and Complaint Investigator for Local Authority Statutory Children’s Services Complaints; and has recently joined a regional adoption agency as Vice-Chair of its Adoption Panel; he also sits as a Fostering Panel Member for a national charitable fostering agency. James is lead trustee for safeguarding for a regional charity working with LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees and is working towards his Diploma in Counselling.

James lives on the outskirts of Durham City where he enjoys creativity, photography, cooking, walking, and reading but more than anything, he is proud to be an adoptive dad to two wonderful little boys and loves nothing more than spending time with them and his husband often dancing, singing and generally being a bit daft!

James is passionate about helping improve the world for children and young people, especially children who are looked after; by ensuring they are loved, supported, and have the very best care possible.
