Blue Cabin Director Jenny Young was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England to deliver the Head, Heart, Hands Darlington project from April 2016-April 2017. With the support of Darlington Borough Council, Creative Darlington and the arts and cultural organisations and venues across Darlington, this project aimed to create an arts and cultural strategy for looked after children and the adults in their lives.
We placed conversation at the heart of this project. We consulted with looked after children and the adults in their lives, to inform what we did and how we did it.
We also consulted with Darlington Borough Council and the arts and cultural organisations and venues across the town to develop a Story of Change for the project.
We met with participants and partners regularly to understand what was working and what worked less well.
Working in partnership with the arts organisations and venues across Darlington and the North East we provided lots of opportunities for looked after children and the adults in their lives to get involved in creative thinking, making and doing.
We delivered training to artists and organisations about the Learning Framework for Artist Pedagogues and the context of working with looked after children and young people.
Our Story of Change helped us to develop an evaluation framework for the project.
We regularly talked and reflected with looked after children, young people, artists and arts organisations and Darlington Borough Council to understand what connections, challenges and opportunities were taking place.
