Blue Cabin Associate Artist, Pady O’Connor, is working with children and young people from Redcar and Cleveland virtual school to build a magical, visual world of wonder: MeeMee Theatre’s Worlds of Curiosity and Play.
Over a series of weekly sessions, the group use masks, clowning, games and storytelling to invent characters and worlds from their imaginations.
The children and young people are all in years 5 and 6, meaning they will soon be transitioning to secondary school. The project gives them the opportunity to build friendships and gain confidence.
Every child and young person also has the opportunity to achieve an Arts Award qualification.
Staff from the Virtual School have said:
“It has been so lovely to watch (child) grow in confidence during the sessions. Her willingness to put herself forward and try new things with new people has been inspiring and a joy to be part of.”
“[The best thing was] giving these wonderful children opportunities to access the arts. Thank you.”

We’ve created four Arts Award packages for virtual schools. These include one-day sessions through to half-term and term-long programmes, aimed at pupils aged from five to 13.
