Lisette Auton

Lisette is passionate about telling the stories she struggled to find – those that reflect her northern, working class, disabled and neurodivergent experience – and making sure that everyone can see themselves in, or are authors of, the stories that are being told.
She’s an award-winning multidisciplinary artist based in Darlington, who does stuff with words as an author, playwright, activist, mentor, creative practitioner, filmmaker and performer. The focus of all her work is on place, process, and creative access.

She is the author of four children’s books published by Puffin (Penguin Random House UK): THE SECRET OF HAVEN POINT; THE STICKLEBACK CATCHERS; LIGHTS UP; and THE STARLIGHT REBEL. They are all adventure stories set in North East England and feature a cast of diverse characters.

She also writes plays for both children and adults including commissions from Alphabetti Theatre, Unfolding Theatre, Live Theatre and Queen’s Hall Arts Centre. This year she’s been awarded Artist of the Year by TVCA which means she’s having loads of fun making a creative mess which she hopes will lead to a play and a book for grown-ups.

You’ll find Lisette’s work in galleries, online, in theatres and bookshops, as well as random places such as laundrettes and railway station waiting rooms. When she’s not playing with words you’ll find her reading them, collecting conkers and pebbles, or having a nap.
