The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, which aims to improve our natural world, secure a fairer future and strengthen the bonds in communities in the UK, has awarded £200,000 unrestricted funding across three years to Blue Cabin to support our work with care-experienced children and young people.
The Foundation, which is a longstanding supporter of Blue Cabin’s work, has granted the funding to support the charity’s core costs as well as three new projects with care leavers and care experienced people.
The projects which will be supported are:
Delivered in partnership with Nepacs, Creative Aid is a co-creation project with care-experienced young men in Deerbolt Prison, supporting the young men to be recognised as artists. Through the new funding, Blue Cabin and Nepacs hope to host online exhibitions showcasing artwork by Creative Aid participants. We hope to secure further funding for in-person exhibitions over the next two years.
Blue Cabin will work with trainer, speaker and consultant Mary-anne Hodd across three years to develop life story work resources for professionals to support care leavers.
Blue Cabin is working with Durham University’s Institute of Medical Humanities to design and deliver creative facilitation training for care experienced young adults, aged 18 to 25. The programme will equip people with new skills and practical experience in leading discussions, workshops and events, with an emphasis on creating safe and inclusive spaces where everyone’s voice is heard.
