New grant funding supports Blue Cabin’s work

Blue Cabin has been granted £8,000 to support its work with care-experienced children and young people, from the 1989 Willan Charitable Trust.

The trust, which is administered via the Community Foundation, supports charities and organisations that benefit people living in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham and Teesside. The trust prioritises organisations that work to enrich people’s quality of life, the fabric of local communities, and ease the effects of social deprivation.

As Blue Cabin director Jenny Young explains, the grant will support Blue Cabin’s core costs: “Receiving support from organisations like the 1989 Willan Charitable Trust, which is supporting us for a second year, is so vital in ensuring that Blue Cabin’s work can continue.

“We appreciate the support of each and every one of our funders and their contributions mean that more care-experienced children and young people can experience the benefits of taking part in trauma-informed, creative projects.”

Over the next year, Blue Cabin plans to expand its work in Newcastle and Tees Valley and is also in the process of establishing an Experts by Experience group, strengthening the voices of care-experienced people within the organisation.

“We see the creative potential in every care-experienced person, and we know that our work helps children and young people to have fun, grow in confidence, gain new skills and develop stronger relationships,” added Jenny Young.

“With the support of the 1989 Willan Charitable Trust and the Community Foundation, we will continue to deliver projects, share our learning and help inform the use of creativity to benefit care-experienced children and young people.”
