£10,000 from the Wellesley Trust Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and £105,000 over three years from Segelman Trust, will allow the charity to expand its work with local authorities, supporting them to improve outcomes for children and young people in their care.
The funding will also help Blue Cabin to increase the representation of care-experienced people within its own organisation.
Blue Cabin Executive Director, Jenny Young, said:
“We’re so grateful to the Community Foundation, Wellesley Trust and Segelman Trust. Their support means we can work with more local authorities, artists, families and foster carers to help improve the lives of more care-experienced children and young people.
“It will also help us as we work towards our aim of representing more care-experienced people within Blue Cabin – specifically within our board, so that they can shape the way we work and bring their perspective to Blue Cabin’s programmes and research.”
The Community Foundation matches generous people with important community causes. Every year, the Foundation award grants to hundreds of small charities in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and across North East England, through funds set up by a range of donors. The Newcastle-based charity, the UK’s biggest Community Foundation, has built an endowment of over £90 million to build a portfolio of funds that tackles the vital issues in our community.
