Blue Cabin has achieved a Bronze Investors in the Environment accreditation, recognising our commitment to helping to bring about positive environmental change.
During the last year, we’ve taken the following steps as part of our drive to reduce Blue Cabin’s environmental impact:
Blue Cabin has achieved the accreditation through Going Green Together, a pilot project which is bringing together VCSE organisations in the North East to take action on climate change.
Jenny Young, director of Blue Cabin, explained more: “With the support of Going Green Together, we’ve been able to make significant progress in understanding the environmental impact of Blue Cabin as a whole; in identifying our priority areas, where we can really make a difference; and putting plans in place for reducing our carbon footprint.
“Achieving this bronze accreditation is recognition that we’re on the right track and that, as a small charity, we can still play an active role in reducing harmful impact on the environment.”
Investors in the Environment is a not-for-profit sustainability accreditation scheme for organisations of all sectors and sizes. It provides tools and training to help organisations take action to reduce their environmental impact.
Its bronze accreditation requires organisations to set targets to reduce environmental impact and to take action to improve performance whilst enhancing the community in which they operate.
Blue Cabin will continue to work with Going Green Together and Investors in the Environment, and priorities for the next phase of sustainability improvements include waste management and IT.
“We now have a framework in place to help us continue to develop and implement sustainable practices,” said Jenny Young.
“Next, we will be examining the carbon impact of our IT and data storage and considering ways we can reduce this. We’ll also be tackling more of the sustainability challenges which are faced by all organisations which use remote and home working.”
Genee is the North East Hub for Investors in the Environment (iiE), guiding organisations on their iiE journey to embed sustainability into their operations. iiE is an accessible and proven route to help organisations get started on their sustainability journey and make a real impact. It has been running for over 12 years, and in that time has helped hundreds of organisations from all sectors and sizes to improve their environmental performance. The scheme is owned and managed by a sustainability charity.
Blue Cabin’s iiE membership is part of their participation in Going Green Together’s pilot. The Going Green Together project is led by VONNE (Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East) and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, County Durham Community Foundation, and Tees Foundation.
