Harewood Hill Lodge: A Creative Care Home

In 2018 children, young people, and their carers from Harewood Hill Lodge took part in, and experienced, a huge range of arts and cultural activities together; working with professional artists, visiting arts and cultural venues, and participating in activities within the home.

They also had a fantastic time doing Arts Award, supported by staff, who were all trained as Arts Award Advisers.

This was achieved by delivering a highly effective learning programme which offered a unique and much needed opportunity for children and young people and their carers to work creatively together, strengthening their relationships, improving confidence and wellbeing, and contributing towards a vibrant Care Home with and Outstanding OFSTED rating.

β€œThe children have had the opportunity to develop creatively and be critical of themselves as artists. They have been able to set themselves challenges, explore the arts and share their achievements and while doing this they have gained a recognised qualification.” (Dawn Burnip, Manager).

Harewood Hill Lodge is a short break service for children and young people with physical and learning disabilities, managed by Darlington Borough Council.

We are extremely grateful to County Durham and Darlington NHS Health Improvement Fund, managed by the County Durham Community Foundation, who, along with Darlington Borough Council, have made this project possible.
