Head, Heart, Hands Darlington

Blue Cabin Director Jenny Young has been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England to deliver the Head, Heart, Hands Darlington project. With support of Darlington Borough Council, Creative Darlington and the arts and cultural organisations and venues across Darlington, this project aims to create an arts and cultural strategy for looked after children and the adults in their lives.

As a result, artists will develop the quality of their practice resulting in increased engagement; organisations will develop their audience and participation strategies, delivery models and artistic practice; target groups will be supported to access art and culture as audience members and participants and report improved engagement, well being and participation; an evaluation will be shared regionally and nationally.

We will share ideas and learning with you on this page. We would also love to hear from you if you would like to know more about the project, or have any ideas to share with us.

Consultation

We are placing conversation at the heart of this project. We will talk with looked after children and the adults in their lives, to inform what we do and how we do it.

We will consult with the arts and cultural organisations and venues and Darlington Borough Council to develop a Story of Change for the project.

We will share ideas and learning with you on this page. We would also love to hear from you if you would like to know more about the project, or have any ideas to share with us.

Action

We will provide lots of opportunities for looked after children and the adults in their lives to get involved in creative thinking, making and doing. We will walk alongside them to understand the difference that these opportunities make to them. We will deliver training to artists and organisations about the Learning Framework for Artist Pedagogues. We will learn more about whether this is a helpful tool to underpin their creative practice when working with looked after children.

Learning

We will learn from what we are doing. We will reflect with children, young people, artists and organisations to understand what connections, challenges and opportunities are taking place.

We will share this learning regularly, in conversation, at events and on social media.
